It is a bit of hard work to getting the top of this lighthouse, navigation is key as requires going up a tiny ladder. However, when you reach the top there are great views of the fishing harbour and the city of Accra.
About the James Town Light House
Located east of the Korle Lagoon, Jamestown and Usshertown are the oldest districts in the city of Accra. The colonial-era lighthouse was built in the 1930s and sits in the fishing communities of this area. The light house, which is 34 metres (112 ft) above sea level, has a visibility of 16 nautical miles (30 km).
Just a note of caution
It’s not a tourist attraction in the usual sense as there are no gift shops or ticket offices. However, as soon as you approach the area be prepared to be accosted by your very own tour guide. These tour guides for a few Ghana Cedis usually about 5 will guide you up the lighthouse up the spiral staircase for the views. Or you can try and manage it yourself and save the few Cedis for refreshments.
